Greener Travel
The Grange & Pyramids Shopping Centre is acknowledging the need to be more environmentally friendly this Autumn and cycling is at the top of the list.
The focus on creating greener, safer communities starts with fun activities that’ll take place in the month of October on the malls to encourage people to think about the benefits of getting around on 2 wheels.
The events include some help from the visitors to the centres - pedal away for 3 minutes in order to make a healthy smoothie and a blast on a bike to complete a virtual course in the quickest time to see who can win a prize for the best time!
This is to be combined with a visit from the Wirral council who will be advising visitors and shoppers on how to be safe on your bike and as importantly they will be giving tips on how to look after your bike as well. The overall emphasis is on getting people to think about travelling and making smarter travel choices.
To add to the campaign, the centre is giving away 6 adult and 4 children’s mountain bikes to get 10 lucky people off to a speedy start, although shoppers can’t cycle in the malls, they can enjoy the big outdoors and the wind whipping through their hair!

Design a Bag Competition
“Many of our shopping centre retailers have signed up to the Government's Voluntary Code of Practice on Carrier Bags, which sees all retailers working towards a shared objective with Government and the Waste Resources and Action Programme (WRAP) to reduce the environmental impact of carrier bags. To support this objective Pyramids and Grange Shopping Centre is launching their own community carrier bag.
We have invited local school children to create a design to go onto the front of the recycled, reusable community ‘bag for life’. The best design will be selected by a panel of judges from the local community and printed on the bags. These bags will then be sold (for a donation of £1 per bag) by our retailers with all donations given to our nominated local charity Claire House. The winning designer will receive a prize and a state of the art digital camera for their school.
To the left is an example of the outstanding quality of the entries received to date from some of the schools, this one is from a pupil at St Werburgh's, Birkenhead
